This is not an exhaustive listing but rather a path in the woods; much more detail is available in the local courthouses and record offices. Many individuals have private collections of these materials, and the LDS files contain copies as well. Numbers in brackets often represent a reference to my own files. Counties are listed alphabetically. The emphasis is on persons with dates before 1860.
As time goes by I'll be uploading some of the family pedigrees thus far sorted out and a listing of some of the individuals actively researching or interested in these families. I'll also be hoping to add links to other web sites which feature these families.
This is the first experimental upload of a collection of material sorted by state and county, and my hope is to upload the rest of the material I have on other states within the next three months. I am particularly interested in the early Arnetts and will welcome additions for factual data which link groups of families together. No proof that James' wife was a Bell or a Michael (both surnames used by various people). The only wife of record for James Arnett is Mary and that is a deed to their son Jonathan. Since Jonathan and his sister Mary were the youngest children, it is not known if Mary was the mother of all of the children. Years ago, probably in the early 1940s a Neason Cunningham wrote a genealogy of the James Arnett Family naming his father as Isaac of New Jersey. The ancestry to Isaac of New Jersey was debunked in the 1950's. In 1969, Glenn D. Lough wrote a book and made several statements which are simply UNPROVEN--but there are those who copy it as if it were gospel and pass it on to others. One claim by Lough was that James married the sister of his daughter Catherine's husband Daniel Michael. Daniel Michael was married to Elizabeth Arnett, not Catherine. Daniel Michael's father Henry Michael did not marry until 1756. Thus, if Mary was a Michael her age would have prevented her from marrying James and mothering his older children. Then we have another researcher who says that James married Mary Bell daughter of George Bell of Louisa Co. VA. Have been unable to prove that. -- Phyllis Vines
